Ready for the final

KV Mechelen will go into next Saturday’s Belgian Cup Final with their tails up, after a 3-0 home win against Sporting Lokeren. Three goals in just five minutes saw Maliwa take all three points from their last league match of the season.
KV Mechelen and Sporting Lokeren was a typical end of season match with both teams having nothing to play for but their honour.

KV Mechelen’s thoughts were clearly with next Saturday’s Cup Final clash against Racing Genk and the home side produced little in the way of chances during the first half an hour.
The KV Mechelen goalkeeper Olvier Renard can think himself luckily not to have been given a red card after he handled the ball outside the area.

Moments later, Bjorn Vleminckx had the first real chance of the match, but he failed to beat the Lokeren keeper Copa.

Second half goal

The second half had much more to offer. Both teams turned up the pace and were able to create more chances in front of goal
However, KV Mechelen were the better side and scored no fewer than three times in just six minutes through Rossini, Vrancken en Persoons.

It was over and out Lokeren. KV Mechelen move up to ninth place with 49 points. Sporting Lokeren are seventh with 51 points.
