Yanina Wickmayer beaten in final

The Flemish tennis player Yanina Wickmayer (WTA 72) has failed to win this year’s Grass Court Championship in the Dutch town of Rosmalen. The 19-year-old from Lier in Antwerp province was beaten in two sets 6-3 and 7-5 by the reigning champion Tamarine Tanasugarn (WTA 47).
The Thai took the match and the 220,000 US dollar prize money after 1 hour and 44 minutes of play.

Wickmayer took her first ever WTA title last month when she won the Estoril Open Tennis Tournament in Portugal.

Despite her defeat in the final at Rosmalen, Wickmayer travels to Wimbledon full of confidence.

She will play the Russian Elena Vesnina (WTA 38) on either Monday or Tuesday.
