Royal couple in Romania for three-day visit

King Albert and Queen Paola are on a three-day visit to Romania. It's their first official visit to the East European country.
The royal couple accepted an invitation from president Traian Basescu and is accompanied by Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht (Flemish liberal).
Albert and Paola arrived yesterday. They were received by Mr Basescu and his wife Maria in the presidential palace in Cotroceni. A military parade was held to welcome the Belgian royals.

King Albert also had a meeting with premier Emile Boc and the Parliament Speaker. Today, the Belgian royal couple visited Stavropoleos Church in Bucharest (photo).

They also visited Focus Romania, a centre for missing and sexually abused children. The organisation has close links with its Belgian counterpart, Child Focus. Tonight, Albert and Paola are attending a concert and a banquet with Belgian specialties.
