Three Belgians return from La Palma

As two forest fires still rage out of control on La Palma in the Canary Islands. Three of the sixteen Belgians trapped on the holiday island have returned home. They few into Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands today. The remaining thirteen Belgians are due to fly into Brussels tomorrow.
Meanwhile, between 1,500 and 2.000 hectares of forest have perished in the fires.

Around 4,000 people have been evacuated from villages bordering the stricken area.

Many tourists are unable to leave their hotels.

A spokesman for the tour operator Jetair told the VRT that

"We are following the situation from hour to hour.”
