Clijsters beat Venus Williams!

In the U.S. Open women's singles fourth round Belgium's Kim Clijsters beat the number three in the world Venus Williams of the United States in three sets of 6-0 0-6 6-4.
It was a rather odd, but definitely very exciting match. In barely more than 20 minutes Kim took the first set by an astonishing 6-0.

Set 3: a thriller from start to finish

It looked like the number three in the world had totally lost her grip.

But then, for good reason Venus Williams is ranked third in the world: she bounced back totally in the second set and Kim looked like it was her turn to totally lose grip. Venus took the second set by the same 6-0.

The third set was obviously the decisive one. And both players, experienced as they are knew it was now or never.  It was a thriller from start to finish. Kim was back in the match and Venus did not let go... The result was a very high level match with top class tennis on both sides. But Kim gained a slight advantage after breaking Venus' serve

The difference proved to be essential for Kim to go on to victory taking the last set by 6-4.

"This was very emotional"

After her victory Kim Clijsters had tears in her eyes. "I have never been so emotional on the tennis court," she said. "This means a lot for me. This is why you do it."

The comeback mom is on to the quarter finals of the U.S. Open

Kim will play against Li Na in her next match. "That will be more difficult," says a cautious Kim Clijsters.

Yanina Wickmayer still to play in the third round

Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer will play against Kvitova of the Czech Republic.  Petra Kvitova eliminated the number one in the world Dinara Safina to get to the third round.
