Clijsters triumphs in quarter-final

At the US Open in New York the Belgian tennis diva beat Na Li of China in two sets, 6-2 and 6-4.
Clijsters had little difficulty in dispatching her opponent. The match lasted barely over an hour. The Belgian now meets Serena Williams in the semi-final.

Na Li is the world's number 19, but was able to offer little resistance against the Clijsters locomotive.

Clijsters went 5-1 ahead in the first set. Minutes later the Belgian had pocketed the set 6-2. At no time was Na Li able to keep up with the pace set by Clijsters.

Clijsters also dominated set number two. Na Li failed to display the creativity needed to unsettle the Belgian.

Clijsters's powerful play missed its aim at times and Na Li took the score to level pegging: 3-3.

The Belgian realised that concentration was needed. With the score at 5-4 she could serve to win the match. A first match point was lost in a long rally, but the second hit the mark.

"I couldn't spoil this chance"

After the match Clijsters spoke of her concern about the quarter-final: "Being drawn against Na Li in the quarter-final of a Grand Slam tournament was a piece of luck. After winning against Venus Williams I couldn't spoil everything by losing in the quarter-final. I knew I had to increase my concentration."

"Will I be able to master my nerves in the semi-final? I have a lot of experience."

Clijsters also hopes that her friend, the other Belgian, Yanina Wickmayer, will survive the quarter-finals too. "I can give her a number of tips. She should concentrate on the match and not imagine everything will happen by itself."

With regard to her semi-final against Serena Williams Clijsters told reporters:” I’ve met her many times before. That's an advantage. When you're playing memories resurface, but sometimes I have to dig deep."
