Standard and Genk crash out of Belgian Cup

Two of the country's leading soccer teams, Standard de Liège and Genk, have been eliminated from the Belgian Cup. Club Brugge and Anderlecht go through.

With the number of clubs down to the final sixteen both squads lost their home tie.

Standard lost at home to KV Kortrijk. Capon and Benteke were responsible for the Kortrijk goals. Witsel saved Standard from humiliation. At the final whistle the score was 2 - 1 for Kortrijk.

Genk went down to a surprise defeat against Roeselare that is currently languishing at the bottom of the first division.

Club Brugge and Anderlecht go through. Mons and Dender, the last remaining second division clubs, are now also out of the Cup.

Anderlecht coursed to victory against Dender.

Club Brugge with ten on the field beat Lokeren 2 - 1.

Gent beat Germinal Beerschot 1 - 0 thanks to a late goal by Wils. Gent now play Club Brugge in the semi-final.

KV Mechelen, last year's finalist, needed extra time to dismiss Charleroi. The match ended in a 5 - 2 victory for Mechelen on a pitch that was still partially covered in snow.

Westerlo too are through thanks to a 3 - 1 victory against Mons.

Zulte-Waregem v Cercle Brugge was postponed.
