The shops started with major reductions from the beginning of the sales this year. According to Fedis, the Belgian federation of small and medium sized businesses in the distribution sector, reductions of 30 and 50 percent was the norm and some items were even sold at 70% off the marked price.
The sharp price reductions given from the beginning of the sales period certainly added to the success of the first sales weekend. The fact that many people were still on holiday when the sales started and the belated start to the winter also contributed to the success on Saturday and Sunday.
The winter sales period in Belgium runs through the 31st of January.
