Industrial action at Janssen Pharmaceutica

Workers at the Janssen Pharmaceutica plants in Geel and Beerse (both Antwerp province) are holding a day of action against proposed job losses. The action got under way at 5am and will last until 11pm this evening. Janssen Pharmaceutica’s parent company Johnson and Johnson plans to axe 500 jobs at the two factories.

All access to the factories has been blocked and no vehicle can enter or leave the plants.

Some workers at the Geel plant are also taking strike action.

Stan Hens of the socialist trades union ABVV told the VRT that management is not prepared to listen to proposals to avert the job cuts.

"The main reason for the action is that after 15 meetings of the Works Council management still won’t answer a number of crucial questions because they claim that they are not relevant and say that our proposals are irrelevant.”
