Dutchman wins Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne

The Dutch rider Bobbie Traksel (Vacansoleil) has won this year’s Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne cycle race. Traksel was the quickest of a three-man leading group.

The atrocious weather meant that many pre-race favourites were forced to drop out before reaching the finishing line.

The weather was so bad that the organisers had to arrange a detour after a tree was uprooted on the Col de Trieu.

In the end Bobbie Traksel completed the 174 km course in 4 hours 43 minutes and 14 seconds.

His compatriot Rick Flens came in second, while the British rider Ian Stannard was third.
