Anderlecht drop points at Sint-Truiden

In the first of this weekend’s matches in the Belgian First Division play-offs. The league-leaders Sporting Anderlecht could only manage a draw away at Sint-Truiden on Friday evening. This gives second-placed Club Brugge the chance to narrow the gap with Anderlecht to just six points, if they can beat AA Gent on Sunday.

The match got off to an exciting start with lots of chances for both teams.

Sint-Truiden’s Sidibé had his header blocked by Proto, while at the other end, Buysens cleared Van Damme’s effort from the line.

Sint-Truiden should have been given a penalty after the Anderlecht Captain Olivier Deschacht handled the ball inside the area.

However, referee Nzolo thought differently and waved play on.

Anderlecht took the lead on 29 minutes after Mbark Boussoufa (middle photo) scored from a Lukaku cross.

However, the visitors’ joy was short-lived as Schouterden (bottom  photo) levelled the score just two minutes later.

Just before half time Sint-Truiden had an excellent chance to go 2-1 up after a blunder by Proto.

However, the Anderlecht keeper kept a cool head and made good his mistake by blocking Wilmet’s effort.

The second half saw Sint-Truiden as the better side.

The home side dominated and Anderlecht had a narrow escape when Buyssens' shot was cleared from the line on 53 minutes.

A little later, Wilmet’s effort went just over the bar.

Sidibé too had a couple of shots saved by Proto.

Meanwhile, Anderlecht substituted Lukaku and brought in Legear.
