Kortrijk won the West Flemish derby against Zulte Waregem by two goals to nil.
After Ibou’s sending off on 16 minutes (photo), Zulte Waregem used their one-man advantage to put pressure on the Kortrijk defence.
However, Zulte Waregem too went down to ten men when Kevin Roelandts received his second yellow card on 26 minutes.
There was little in the way of football, but plenty in the way of fouls during the rest of the half.
Kortrijk had a couple of chances to pull ahead through Benteke and Hempte.
The second half started on a positive note with both teams having brought in extra strike power up front.
However, neither goalkeeper was really tested and the match seemed to heading for a goalless draw.
This all changed on 74 minutes when Benteke made the most of a defensive error by Taravel to put KV Kortrijk one up.
The home side went down to nine men two minutes later when Pavlovic was given his marching orders for pushing the referee.
Referee Stéphane Breda was having great difficulty maintaining order.
The visitors threw everything they had into the attack leaving their defence wide open.
This allowed Benteke to score his and Kortrijk’s second goal of the evening in the final minute.
Kortrijk remain fifth, while Zulte Waregem are sixth in the table.
An important win for Genk
Racing Genk took another step towards winning their play-off 2 pool with a 2-1 win away at Sporting Charleroi.
The first half ended goalless.
Genk’s first goal of the evening came on 53 minutes through Ogunjimi.
Charleroi went down to ten men on 77 minutes when Perdichizzi was given his second yellow card of the evening.
Genk made went two up two minutes later through Barda.
The Charleroi Captain Cyril Théréau scored a consolation goal five minutes from time to make the final score 2-1 to Genk.
Racing Genk top Pool B in play off 2 with nine points from three games.
Charleroi have no points.
KV Mechelen continue their winning ways
A 13th minute goal by Julien Gorius was enough to give KV Mechelen victory in their match against Cercle Brugge.
The win sees Malinwa make it nine out of nine points in the play-offs so far.
KV Mechelen top Pool A, while Cercle are third with three points from three games.
Six goals in thirty-six minutes
All of the goals in the 3-3 draw between Sporting Lokeren and Westerlo came in the second half.
Liliu opened the scoring for Westerlo on 54 minutes, only for Mokulu to equalise a minute later.
Golan put the home side 2-1 up on 60 minutes.
De Petter brought Westerlo level ten minutes from time.
Lokeren went 3-2 up a minute later through Tsimanga.
A goal by Westerlo’s Van Hout in the fourth minute of injury time made the final score 3-3.
