Kortrijk too strong for Club Brugge

Things are going from bad to worse for Club Brugge. After suffering the humiliation of their fierce rivals Sporting Anderlecht winning the title race in Bruges last Sunday, Club have now lost the West Flemish derby against KV Kortrijk. Club are now third in the play-off 1 table However, they could slip to fourth place if Sint-Truiden beats Zulte Waregem on Saturday evening.

Club Brugge needed to win Friday evening’s match to reclaim second place.

Kortrijk’s Laurent Ciman played an excellent match in defence.

Club Brugge was also strong in defence.

However, the Kortrijk forward Christian Benteke’s effort was able to break though Club Brugge’s ring of steel on 37 minutes.

Benteke made it 2-0 five minutes later with a header from an Ibou cross.

The second half saw the Club Brugge Coach Adrie Koster bring two extra attracting players in the form of Maxime Lestienne and Ronald Vargas.

However, they failed to make a difference.

Club tried to create chances, but was always thwarted by the Kortrijk defence.

Benteke almost scored his third goal of the evening for Kortrijk fifteen minutes from time, but it was not to be and the match ended 2-0 to Kortrijk.
