Lierse back in top flight

Lierse SK have taken the title in the second football league and will join the elite teams in the premier league next season. Lierse took the title after beating Waasland 2-0.

Lierse return to the top flight after three years in the second division. The promotion is a big relief, after earlier attempts had just gone wrong. The club plays in Lier, which is located east of the city of Antwerp. Lierse had financial woes, until an investor from Egypt, Maged Samy,  bought the club.

Lierse is coached by Aimé Anthuenis, the former national team coach. The club often enjoys a home crowd of 13,000, which is quite a lot for a Belgian club in the second division.
