Stolen Torahs found

The Jewish magazine ‘Joods Actueel’ reports that some of the Torahs that were stolen from an Antwerp Synagogue at the end of last month have been found.

The magazine says that the Torahs were stolen by an Eastern European gang.

The Torah is the first of three parts of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) which is the founding religious document of Judaism.

According to a report in the daily ‘Gazet van Antwerpen’, the Torahs turned up in the Polish capital Warsaw.

Jewish community spokesman Pinkhas Kornfeld refused to elaborate on how the Torahs were found.

There has been speculation that a ransom has been paid.

However, this is believed to be far less than the hundreds of thousand of Euros demanded by the thieves.

A total of six Torahs were stolen from the synagogue last month.

One of them was over two hundred years old.
