Major copper theft in Zulte

In Zulte (East Flanders), no less than 50 tons of copper was stolen from the industrial estate of the transport company Verbauwhede.

The thieves penetrated the area via the timber company next door. They forced their way through the gate and made a hole in a second fence.

According to local police, the theft was planned in detail. The thieves had first stolen two trailers in nearby Deinze (south-west of Ghent). They used the trailers to transport the copper, two loads of 25 tons. The stolen copper is worth an estimated 350.000 euros.

Security cameras filmed the whole robbery, but the thieves are still on the run (photo above: archive photo).
