Anderlecht ready to take on Partizan

In football, champions Anderlecht have beaten Lokeren, but the match was closer than the final score suggests. In other games of the 4th day of play, Zulte Waregem whipped Cercle Brugge while Germinal Beerschot are still waiting for their first victory.

In Lokeren (East Flanders), Anderlecht had a good rehearsal for the Champions League clash with Partizan Belgrade next Tuesday.

Anderlecht cruised to a 3-0 victory after goals by strikers Sacha Kljestan and Kanu and playmaker Mbark Boussoufa. However, Lokeren also had many chances, but they missed the best opportunities while Anderlecht goalkeeper Silvio Proto had some top-notch saves.

Anderlecht were very efficient in front of the Lokeren goal and were never in big trouble, despite Lokeren being the better team after the break. With Lokeren pushing back Anderlecht, it was Boussoufa who sealed the Anderlecht win with a penalty.

Anderlecht receive Partizan Belgrade in Brussels next Tuesday, after drawing 2-all in Belgrade.

Germinal Beerschot waiting for first win

In other matches yesterday, ambitious Germinal Beerschot yet again failed to pick up their first win of the season: 0-0 against Westerlo, a big disappointment for newly arrived coach Glen De Boeck and the Antwerp fans (photo: Beerschot striker Adnan Custovic after the final whistle).

Cercle Brugge could not keep the momentum after their stunt victory against eternal city rivals Club Brugge last weekend. Cercle got whipped 4-0 by Zulte Waregem.

Newcomers Lierse SK are still waiting for their first points in the top flight, after losing 2-1 at home against KV Kortrijk. The win gives Kortrijk 10 points and a place among the country's best teams.
