Wins for Standard and Beerschot

Wins for Standard and Germinal Beerschot on Saturday night, while AA Gent, Eupen and Mechelen disappointed.

AA Gent could only manage a 2-2 draw against Lierse. Sonck was man of the match scoring both Lierse goals. Soumahoro opened the scoring for AA Gent, while De Smet put the second AA Gent goal in the net before half time. AA Gent are fifth in the standings, Lierse 15th and in the relegation zone.

Kortrijk were first to go ahead in their match against Mechelen thanks to an own goal.

Kortrijk were the better team but no further goals followed.

For a while Kortrijk had to get by with only ten players and Kums received a second yellow card.

This is the first defeat for Mechelen this season. Mechelen are 4th in the standings, Kortrijk 3rd.

Striker Memé Tchité celebrated his return at Standard with an early goal against Cercle Brugge.

Standard were not in form, but Cercle were unable to profit. Cornelis was shown a red card. Shortly before half-time Reynaldo failed to equalise. Witsel then took Standard into a commanding 2-0 lead.

Standard are 6th in the standings, Cercle Brugge 10th.

Zulte Waregem v. Eupen is a match best forgotten. The home eleven missed creativity and failed to make any chances. Eupen blocked the Zulte Waregem advance but were not able to score either.

The score remained 0-0 securing a first point for newcomers Eupen. Their stay in the first division does not look like being a long one. Eupen are 16th and last in the standings, Zulte Waregem 8th.

Germinal Beerschot failed to impress against Charleroi. The home eleven posed a greater danger during the first half, but didn't score. Charleroi's Losada and Kagé were both sent off.

Even with only nine opponents on the pitch the home eleven made little headway. It took a free kick for Custovic to put Germinal in the lead and pocket three points.

Germinal Beerschot are 12th, Charleroi 13th.
