All square between KV Mechelen and KRC Genk

The first of this weekend’s matches in the Belgian First Division ended all square. The League-leaders Racing Genk dropped points for only the second time this season with a two-all draw away at KV Mechelen.

KV Mechelen pushed forward from the outset and Malinwa’s work was rewarded on 11 minutes when Kevin Geudens put the home side one up after a series of blunders in the Racing Genk defence.

Racing Genk went on the look out for an equaliser.

However, it was KV Mechelen’s Boris Panza that scored next, putting Malinwa 2-0 up on 35 minutes.

Racing Genk weren’t going to take things lying down though and Elianiv Barda pulled one back for the Limburgers just a minute later.

The first half ended 2-1 in KV Mechelen’s favour.

Racing Genk turned up the heat early in the second half and was able to force three corners in the space of just three minutes.

Matoukou put the KV Mechelen defender Kenny Van Hoevelen under such pressure that he put the ball into the back of his own team’s net on 49 minutes.

KV Mechelen also had several chances to take all three points,  but it was not to be and the match ended 2-2.

Racing Genk still top the First Division with 26 points from 10 games.

KV Mechelen is fourth on 18 points.
