Buffaloes stop Mechelen in their tracks

AA Gent -the Buffaloes - deservedly won against KV Mechelen on Saturday night. The victory takes Gent to second place in the league behind leaders Racing Genk.

AA Gent thrashed KV Mechelen 3 - 1 at home. Mechelen failed to make any inroads into the Gent defence. However, it did take until just before half time for Coulibaly to cash in on the chances. Ljubijankic improved Gent's performance after half-time.

KV Mechelen are now 5th in the standings.

Hugo Broos booked clear success in his first match at the helm at Zulte Waregem. Thanks to De Ceulaer Lokeren seemed on course to victory, but Zulte Waregem managed an equaliser in extra time.

Germinal Beerschot needed to impress following their recent 5 - 1 thrashing by KV Mechelen, but did not get any further than a 0 - 0 draw against Sint-Truiden. Germinal Beerschot are 11th, Sint-Truiden 13th.

At the bottom of the league Eupen and Lierse battled for valuable points. Eupen seemed on course for defeat, but by the final whistle they had succeeded in putting a 2 - 2 score on the board.

Westerlo and Cercle Brugge provided an interesting match. Cercle made the best chances, but at the end of the day it was Westerlo that went 2 - 1 ahead in the Kuipje stadium.

Earlier on Friday night Charleroi and Kortrijk drew 0 - 0. The least said about this match the better. Kortijk are 8th in the standings, Charleroi last but one.

Blue army fails to impress

On Sunday afternoon Club Brugge drew 2 – 2 against Standard. Simaeys opened the scoring for Standard through an own goal. Fortunately Club had Vargas on hard to make it 1 – 1 and 2 – 1. Cyriac equalised in the 70th minute.

Club are eighth in the standings. Standard stay 4th.
