Special buses on New Year's Eve

The Flemish local transport company De Lijn will be running special bus services on New Year's Eve and early on New Year's Day in order to ensure that revellers who have drunk too much alcohol are able to get home safely.

400 De Lijn staff will be working especially on New Year's Eve to man the special buses and trams for revellers. Travellers can purchase a special ticket for one of these services at a cost of 2.5 euros. The ticket remains valid throughout New Year's Day on all De Lijn services and passengers can take as many buses and trams as they like.

Season ticket holders will travel free of charge and ordinary tickets can also be used. In some places travel on New Year's Eve will even be free of charge.

De Lijn timetables for New Year's Eve can be consulted on the website www.delijn.be. You can also call for extra information on 070/220 220.

Last year over 187,000 revellers made use of the special New Year's Eve bus service.

Also in the capital the Brussels local transport company is running special bus, tram and metro services on New Year's Eve. Travel will be free of charge. 300 MIVB staff will be working especially to guarantee these services.

Get driven home in your own car!

The organisation Responsible Young Drivers (RYD) will be providing a special service to drivers too drunk to drive their own vehicle home. Between midnight and 6 AM up to 300 RYD drivers will be ready to  take you home in your own car.

On New Year's Eve RYD can be reached on 0902/12345.

The Belgian rail company is making no changes to its normal timetable on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. New Year's Day is, of course a public holiday with a Sunday service.
