Who was at the demo?

Sunday's big demo in Brussels in protest against the failure of Belgium's political class to agree a new Federal Government reportedly attracted 34,000 demonstrators, but who were these people?

The Francophone Brussels daily Le Soir asked the opinion research people of Dedicated to find out. They quizzed over a thousand participants and came to the conclusion that a full 44% hailed from the Brussels Region. 35% made the journey from French-speaking Wallonia, while only 21% of the demonstrators came from Flanders. The survey has a margin of error of 3.5%.

Most protesters said that safeguarding the unity of the country of Belgium was the main reason why they were there (16%). Other concerns, the speedy formation of a new government (15%) and unhappiness with politics (13%) also got people to take part.
