Surprise win for Aussie in cycling semi-classic

Australian rider Christopher Sutton won the 67th edition of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne on Sunday. The race is the second important race of the new cycling season.

Sutton, who rides for Team Sky, won the field sprint ahead of Jevgeni Goetarovitsj of Belarus and André Greipel of Germany.

Jonas Vangenechten was the first Belgian to finish in fifth place. In the final stages Belgian champion rider Tom Boonen tried to escape together with France's Jimmy Engoulvent and avoid a mass finish, but failed.

The race covers a distance of 203 km from the West Flemish town of Kuurne to Brussels and back.

On Saturday Holland's Sebastian Langeveld won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the opening race of the Flemish cycling season.
