Protest against forced repatriations

Activists prevented access to the 127bis closed reception centre for asylum seekers in Steenokkerzeel outside Brussels on Thursday morning. The twenty-five protesters were demonstrating against the forced repatriation of failed asylum seekers planned for later in the day.

In recent days fifteen Congolese failed asylum seekers had been brought together in Steenokkerzeel with 45 failed asylum seekers from other European countries including the UK.

Protester Niel Michiels told VRT News: "We blockaded the entrance to the reception centre in order to prevent the deportations."

Ten protesters also chained themselves to the gate of the centre, but were later removed by the police.
