KRC Genk one step closer to the league title

The Limburgers of KRC Genk beat Sporting Lokeren and are holding a 3-point bonus now over their closest rivals, Anderlecht and Standard. Anderlecht failed to move past FC Bruges in Sunday's classic.

KRC Genk have moved one step closer to capturing their first league title in nine years. In the last match of the 6th day of play in the play-off competition, they beat Sporting Lokeren 0-2 in Lokeren (East Flanders) to post their first away victory in these play-offs.

Defender Eric Matoukou scored on 15 minutes (photo on top) and striker Marvin Ogunjimi added another one in extra time to give Genk a comfortable win. Lokeren played the last half hour with ten men after defender Jérémy Taravel was sent off.

In other action on Sunday, Anderlecht failed to beat FC Bruges in the classic, 0-0. Anderlecht had the better chances throughout the match, but failed to score. Anderlecht also claimed a penalty when striker Dalibor Veselinovic was stopped in the penalty area (photo), but FC Bruges escaped.

It was not a good evening for the Brussels club, which lost midfielder Lucas Biglia with a shoulder injury.
