Aussies love cherry beer from Beersel

A brewery in the Flemish Brabant village of Beersel has something to celebrate this weekend. The Oude Kriek cherry beer brewed at the Oud Beersel brewery has been given an award by beer connoisseurs on the other side of the globe.

Oude Kriek has scooped the International Beer Award in the category of Belgian and French Ales at a beer festival held in the Australian city of Melbourne.

Around 1,100 beers from 33 countries were judged by a panel of 57 beer experts.

Oud Beersel was the only Belgian brewery that won a prize.

Most of the other breweries honoured in Melbourne were from Asia or the Americas.
