Brussels Airlines cancels UK flights

The Zaventem (Flemish Brabant)- based airline Brussels Airlines has cancelled its Tuesday afternoon flight to Edinburgh due to the ash cloud from the Grimsvotn volcano in Island. The cloud is gradually drifting south and has already reached northern areas of the United Kingdom.

The airline’s flight to Newcastle has also been scrapped.

Passengers that were due to fly to Newcastle at 3:35pm have been given the option of a refund or travel on a later flight.

Meanwhile, the 3:05pm flight to Edinburgh has been cancelled as the British Midland plane due to be used for the service is stuck on the ground at the airport in the Scottish capital.

The situation is being closely monitored by the airlines and those in charge at Zaventem.
