Port of Antwerp rewards “green” ships

The port of Antwerp intends to reward environmentally-friendly ships that visit Belgium's biggest harbour.

Vessels that discharge less noxious discharges and limit fuel consumption will be granted a ten percent reduction in port fees.

Director of the Port of Antwerp Eddy Bruyninckx : "Shipping together with all forms of transport needs to make a contribution to a reduction in emissions. We gave the example ourselves by using low sulphur fuels for our fleet of tugs. It costs a little more, but it is a contribution to lowering harmful emissions."
