Gaol for dockers who trafficked cocaine

Ten Antwerp dockers have been sentenced to long sentences following a conviction for cocaine smuggling. The dockers helped South American drug cartels to get containers with cocaine out of the port of Antwerp without being inspected.

Two of the defendants received five year prison terms. Six of the others will have to serve a custodial sentence too.

While sentencing the magistrate lashed out at the dockers saying that they had failed to consider the dangers to society resulting from their illegal cocaine trafficking. He also condemned their willingness to go along with tempting offers from the drug barons.
