Kuznetsova got off to a strong start pulling ahead in a first set that she won 4-6. However, Wickmayer kept her cool and took the second set 6-3.
This made for an exciting third set that was eventually won by Wickmayer 6-4. Game, set and match to the Belgian.
It's the first time that Wickmayer makes it into the last 16 at Wimbledon. "I am really happy that I can stay for the second week. This was my best match on grass ever", she commented. This is the level I want to reach in future.
The 21-year-old will meet Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in the next round. Kvitova is the 8th seed in London.
