Club Brugge off to a flying start

Club Brugge enjoyed a convincing 5-0 win against Westerlo in what was the first match of the new season for both teams on Sunday evening. Club’s victory in the league comes on top of their 4-1 win in the first leg of their Europa League qualifying match against the Azeri side Qarabag FK on Thursday.

The first half saw little in the way of chances with a lackluster Club Brugge unable to break through the tight Westerlo defence.

Club’s first goal of the evening came four minutes into the second half when Westerlo’s Wouter Corstjens put the ball into the back of his own team’s net.

Club Brugge increased their lead on the hour through Vazquez. The turning point in the match came on 62 minutes when Westerlo went down to ten men.

This allowed Club Brugge more space and the West Flemings were dominant during the final half an hour. Goals from Odjidja (67 minutes), Meunier (82 minutes) and Donk (85) minutes made for a final score of 5-0 to Club.
