A miracle for the Canaries in added time

In football, Club Brugge missed the chance to take the pole-position in the top flight. FC Bruges could have been the only team with 2 wins in 2 matches, but gave away a 3-0 lead in Limburg, drawing 3-all against Sint-Truiden. The hosts, also dubbed the Canaries due to their yellow outfit, grabbed a point in added time.

Sint-Truiden changed their infrastructure and also laid a new pitch. The Limburgers are the first team to play on an artificial grass pitch in the Belgian first division. It is said that a synthetic turf is to the benefit of technically skilled players, and it was definitely to the benefit of FC Bruges' new striker Igor Refaelov (small photo), who scored twice in the first half to give FC Bruges a 0-3 lead at halftime.

FC Bruges looked set for an easy victory, but the Canaries, who have built a solid reputation for their indomitable fighting spirit, clawed their way back into the match to 2-3, piling up the pressure in the final 10 minutes.

Eventually, the equalizer came in added time, with Grégory Dufer as the hero of the evening: 3-3. A major disappointment for FC Bruges, who also missed the chance to become the only team in the top flight picking up 6 points from 2 matches.

In other action on Sunday, Standard posted their first victory of the season, 3-1 against Sporting Lokeren. Westerlo failed to move past KV Kortrijk, despite the visitors being reduced to 9 men.

Four teams share the lead with 4 points from 2 matches: Standard, Genk, Cercle Brugge, Zulte Waregem and FC Bruges.
