Cercle inflict stunning defeat on champions

Reigning champions Racing Genk suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Cercle Brugge on Saturday night. Genk lost 3 - 2 away at Cercle. For Genk this was their first defeat of the season and also their first game following the departure of coach Franky Vercauteren.

KV Mechelen fared better at Oud Heverlee Leuven where they beat the first division newcomers 2 - 1 away. AA Gent travelled to Westerlo to win 3 - 2.

Sint-Truiden lost at home to Lokeren 2 - 0. Lierse drew against Beerschot 1 - 1 on Friday. Both Westerlo and Sint-Truiden have only managed to pocket one point from their first four matches.

KV Mechelen now lead the first division with AA Gent, Cercle and Club Brugge trailing by two points. Club Brugge play later today as do Anderlecht and Standard.
