Club Brugge to take on Birmingham

The draw has been made for the group stage of this year’s Europa League. Belgium’s three representatives in the competition will no doubt be pleased with the draw, having avoided big names such as Sporting Lisbon and Schalke 04.

Club Brugge are in Group H and will take on the Portuguese side Braga, Maribor of Slovenia and the English Premiership club Birmingham City.

In Group B, Standard de Liège will meet the Danish champions FC Copenhagen, the German club Hannover and Poltava from the Ukraine.

Sporting Anderlecht have the easiest draw of all in Group L. Ariël Jacobs’ men will take on AEK Athens, Locomotive Moscow and the Austrian club Sturm Graz.

One Anderlecht supporter of more than 25 years standing told Flandersnews.be that Sporting wouldn’t deserve to qualify if they don’t finish among the top two in their group.
