Champions drop points against OHL

The Belgian Champions Racing Genk could only manage a one-all draw away against newly-promoted Oud-Heverlee Leuven. Both teams played positive football, which made for an attractive first half with plenty of chances. However, it wasn’t until the closing minute of the half that Racing Genk opened the scoring through Jelle Vossen.

Genk played much of the second half with ten men, after Barda was given his marching orders for a foul on Annys.

OHL went full out for the equaliser that came on 65 minutes through Nicky Hayen. Racing Genk’s appeals for a last minute penalty were dismissed by referee Geldhof and the match ended all square.

Oud-Heverlee Leuven is 9th with 10 points from 8 games. Racing Genk is 5th with 13 points.

Goals galore at Sint-Truiden

Supporters at the match between Sint-Truiden and AA Gent were treated to no fewer than 7 goals in an exciting match that saw 2 penalties and the exclusion of the Canaries' keeper Bram Castro.

The Canaries took the lead on 24 minutes though Dufer and went two-up 12 minutes later though Ghoochannejad.

The first half ended 2-0 to Sint-Truiden. The second half couldn’t have started better for AA Gent, as Jesper Jorgensen pulled one back just a minute in.

The Buffaloes drew level on 58 minutes after Sint-Truiden’s Sasha Kotysch scored an own goal.

Sint-Truiden reclaimed the lead two minutes later when Ghoochannejad scored his second goal of the night from the penalty spot.

Christian Brul’s 66th minute equaliser made for an exciting climax to a match that ended in disaster for Sint-Truiden when their goalkeeper Bram Castro was sent off and Bernd Thijs (photo) made it 4-3 to AA Gent from the resulting penalty.

AA Gent is now second in the table with 16 points from 8 games. Sint-Truiden is bottom with just 1 point.

Club Brugge on top

Club Brugge now tops the Belgian First Division after a 2-1 home win against RAEC Mons.

Mons took the lead with a first half goal from Jérémy Perbet.

However, second half goals from Vleminckx and Odjidja made for a final score of 2-1 to the West Flemings.

Club Brugge has 18 points from 8 games. RAEC Mons is 6th with 12 points.

Zulte Waregem wins West Flemish derby

A 58th minute goal by Rémi Maréval was enough to give Zulte Waregem victory against near-neighbours KV Kortrijk.

Zulte Waregem is now 12th with 9 points from 8 games. KV Kortrijk is 7th with 11 points.

KV Mechelen beaten at home by Lokeren

Despite playing half the match with ten men, after Tiko was sent off on the stroke of half time, Sporting Lokeren enjoyed a 2-0 victory away at KV Mechelen.

Lokeren’s goals came from Harbaoui on 16 minutes and De Bock 4 minutes from time. Sporting Lokeren is 13th with 8 points from 8 games.

KV Mechelen is 10th with 10 points.

The match between Lierse SK en Westerlo ended goalless. Lierse is 14th with 6 points from 8 games. Westerlo is 15th on 5 points.
