Anderlecht looked set for a comfortable win when leading 2-0 after 36 minutes. The Brussels club had the match under control when the unthinkable happened 20 minutes into the second half.
Beerschot pulled one back, and next also got a penalty. Hernan Losada, a former Anderlecht player, equalised from the spot. However, Beerschot Argentine playmaker was sent off minutes later after a second bookable offence.
Anderlecht suddenly had to work hard for their money again in order to avoid dropping points at home. It was winger Guillaume Gillet who made it 3-2 on 88 minutes, tapping in the ball at the second post.
Standard de Liège, last season's runners-up, were unable to squeeze past Cercle Bruges, the revelations of the new season. The hosts had the better chances and even got a penalty, but Franck Berrier saw his attempt stopped by Cercle goalkeeper Bram Verbist (photo). Final score: 0-0.
