Examining judge Wim De Troy to stay on

Wim De Troy will keep on working as an examining judge for the Brussels judicial authorities. He wrote a letter to Justice Minister Stefaan De Clerck to confirm this, coming back on an earlier decision.

Wim De Troy is one of the most important Brussels magistrates. He gained nationwide renown through "Operation Chalice", the investigation concerning clerical child abuse in Belgium.

However, Wim De Troy decided to resign from his post two weeks ago, when it became clear that his clerk - a woman who has been collaborating closely with him throughout the investigation - would not be allowed to return from maternity leave next year.

Wim De Troy wrote a letter to Justice Minister Stefaan De Clerck (Christian democrat) to announce his resignation, but Mr De Clerck refused this "for continuity reasons." Mr De Troy thought things through and eventually decided to stay on. He wrote another letter to the Justice Minister to confirm this.
