Man U snaps up young Belgian

Manchester United has signed another talented Belgian youngster. 15-year-old Andreas Pereira will move to Old Trafford on his 16th birthday on New Years’ Day 2012. Pereira is an attacking midfielder that currently plays for the youth team at the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

He has been given a 3 ½ year contract with United. Andreas Pereira is the son of Marcos Pereira (small photo), a Brazilian footballer that played for numerous Belgian clubs including Sint-Truiden, KV Mechelen, Royal Football Club Antwerp.

Pereira junior is already a Belgian youth international. However, as he has not yet turned professional, his current club PSV will receive next to nothing for the player.

Speaking in an interview with the football website voetbalprimeur.be, Andreas Pereira said that “I felt that I would be given a chance at PSV. However, Man. United is of course a great club”.

"Other top English clubs also expressed an interest, but United is my dream club.”

“I’ll be put up with a family and my own family will fly over a couple of times a month. I won’t see them much. It’s a shame, but I’ve chosen to chase my dream.”

"I will have to work hard at United. I still play for the under 16’s at PSV, while in Manchester I’ll start straight away with the under 19’s”.

Two Belgians, Charni Ekangamene and Marnick Vermijl, already play for the Old Trafford club’s youth team.
