Riots in Liège after criminal’s funeral

The centre of the Walloon city of Liège was hit by rioting on Saturday night. Several dozen youths went on the rampage after the funeral of Jordy Kasavubu. The young gangster was shot dead last Wednesday during an armed robbery at a Jewellers' in Tilff, just outside Liège.

The rioters smashed shop windows and set cars alight in various parts of the city centre. A total of thirty youths were arrested.

A petrol bomb was thrown at a restaurant just behind Liège Town Hall. Cars driving by also fell prey to the marauding youths.

The Liège Local Police Services reports that all those detained on Saturday evening were between 15 and 25 years old.
