Tintin movie is a hit in the United States

Steven Spielberg's 3D film 'The Secret of the Unicorn' has taken 55 million dollar (43 million euros) during the first 16 days since it was released.

Worldwide the film featuring the young Belgian reporter Tintin created by strip cartoonist Hergé has taken 115 million euros or double the animation film's production costs. 17% of the takings were made in the US.

'The Secret of the Unicorn' is based on three of Hergé's original comic books, 'The Crab with the Golden Claws', 'The Secret of the Unicorn' and 'Red Rackham's Treasure'.
