Anderlecht six points clear

A Gillet penalty a minute before half time was enough to give the league-leaders Sporting Anderlecht victory in their game away at KV Kortrijk on Saturday evening. The match got off to a furious start with both teams going full out for goal. Joseph Monrose created the most chances for Kortrijk, while headers from Mbokani and Wasilewski and a Jovanovic shot posed the greatest threat from Anderlecht.

The match was evenly-balanced. However, Anderlecht took the lead a minute from half time after they were somewhat generously awarded a penalty.

Gillet (photo) converted and the half ended 1-0 to the visitors. Anderlecht took control in the second half but some good goalkeeping from Van Hout prevented them from widening the score.

Anderlecht’s victory sees them go 6 points clear at the top of the First Division.

Sporting now has 46 points from 21 matches. KV Kortrijk is 4th on 34 points; although the West Flemings could drop back a place if Standard beats Westerlo on Sunday evening.

Buffaloes in the doldrums

AA Gent’s recent poor run of form continued on Saturday evening.

The second-placed club in the First Division could only manage a goalless draw against third from bottom Zulte Waregem.

AA Gent is now 6 points behind the leaders Sporting Anderlecht with 40 points from 21 games. Zulte Waregem has 17 points.

Club Brugge beaten at home

KV Mechelen took all three points from their match away at Club Brugge.

Club turned up the heat early on and a Refaelov free-kick went just wide.

However, it was Malinwa’s Cordaro, that found the back of the net on 9 minutes to make for a half-time score of 1-0 to the visitors.

KV Mechelen was able to maintain the lead during the second half against a poorly-organised Club Brugge.

The result sees Club Brugge loose yet more ground on the leaders Sporting Anderlecht. Club now has 37 points from 21 games. KV Mechelen is 10th and has 27 points.

Beerschot sweeps Cercle away

Beerschot enjoyed a resounding victory at home against Cercle on Saturday evening.

Goals by MacDonald, the ex Cercle player Nyoni and two Losada goals (one from the penalty sport) were enough to give the Rats victory.

Beerschot moves up to 8th with 28 points from 21 games. Cercle is 7th with 33 points.

All square in Mons

The match between this season’s two promoted teams RAEC Mons and OH Leuven ended in a two-all draw.

Mons was two-up at half time with goals from Ibou and Perbet.

However, a goal and a penalty goal from Remacle made for a final score of 2-2.

RAEC Mons is 9th with 28 points from 21 games. OH Leuven is 12th with 22 points.

De Ceulaer floors Lierse

Two second half goals by Benji De Ceulaer were enough to give Sporting Lokeren victory against SK Lierse. Sporting Lokeren is 11th in the table with 24 points. SK Lierse has 20 points and is 13th.
