“Bullhead” lands Oscar nomination

The Flemish movie "Bullhead" has secured one of the five nominations for the best foreign language film at the Oscars. Director Michaël R. Roskam is only the third Belgian to see his movie land an Oscar nomination in this category.

“Bullhead”, ‘Rundskop’ in Dutch, first beat a field of 63 entries to end up on the shortlist. It tells the story of how illegal growth hormones are used in Belgian meat production.

Director Michaël R. Roskam has been in the States to promote the film appearing at the international film festival in Palm Springs where lead actor Matthias Schoenaerts received the press prize.

“Bullhead” now needs to beat “Monsieur Lazhar" directed by Canada’s Philippe Falardeau, the Iranian movie "A separation" from Asghar Farhadi, Joseph Cedar‘s "Footnote" (Israel) and "In Darkness" from Poland.

Two other Flemings earlier received a nomination for an academy award: Stijn Coninx for 'Daens' and Dominique Deruddere for 'Iedereen Beroemd'.
