"It was an uncommon month of April"

April did not score very well where the weather is concerned. It was a cold, wet and gloomy month. "April was worse than March, which doesn't happen very often", the VRT's weather presenter Frank Deboosere explains.

Average temperatures in April were lower than in March. "In March we had 8.9 degrees Celsius (48 Fahrenheit), in April we had to be content with 8.4 degrees", Frank Deboosere says.

And there is more. "We had three times more rainfall than in March. We also had a dark and gloomy month with 50 hours less sunshine than in March. We can say that April did worse than March, which doesn't happen very often."

March had also been exceptional, with lots of sunshine and a long, dry spell.
