Man killed by tram in Brussels tunnel

A member of the public was killed when he was run over by a tram. The incident happened in the tram tunnel linking the stations Beurs and De Brouckère in central Brussels.

Pedestrians are not supposed to enter the tunnel on foot. It remains unclear what the man was doing there.

The victim was killed instantly. The tram driver had to be taken to hospital in a state of shock. Tram services through these two stations were suspended for quite a while last night, but the Brussels local transport company deployed shuttle buses as an alternative.
