David Goffin gets Wimbledon wild card

Belgium's David Goffin is being handed a wild card for the Wimbledon tennis tournament. Goffin was one of the revelations of the French Open, Roland Garros, reaching the last 16 and will now not have to play any qualifiers.

It was Switzerland's Roger Federer who dismissed the 21-year-old Belgian in Paris even though Goffin managed to win one set against the tennis giant.

Goffin was supposed to have to battle through the Wimbledon qualifiers to get to the tournament proper, but his performance in Paris impressed and he was awarded a wild card.

The third Grand Slam tournament of the year starts on 25 June.

David Goffin will lumber up for Wimbledon at Rosmalen in the Netherlands where he has also been handed a wild card.

On Monday it was announced that Goffin would also be competing at the London Olympics.
