Anderlecht had lost their last 3 matches at Cercle Bruges last season, but broke the spell. The Congolese striker of Anderlecht, Dieumerci Mbokani, hadn't scored in the domestic competition so far this season, but wiped this out with a hat trick.
Mbokani (photo left with Anderlecht coach John Van den Brom) put the Brussels club ahead after 5 minutes. The Mbokani show continued with 2 goals, one on 24 minutes and another on 75 minutes.
"This was one of my best matches ever in Belgium", Mbokani told reporters. Anderlecht have adopted a new tactical system under Dutch coach John Van den Brom, with only two players in attack: Tom De Sutter and Mbokani. It works. "I have to thank Tom. He works hard and creates extra space for me. We like playing together."
However, it is not sure whether Mbokani will stay at Anderlecht. "If we make it to the Champions League, then I stay, for sure. If not, we'll see. But if I go, I prefer the Premier League." Anderlecht have to take a final hurdle for the Champions League, as they meet Limassol.
The win takes Anderlecht in front, together with eternal rivals Club Bruges and Zulte Waregem. All have 7 points from 3 matches. In other action yesterday, AA Gent were held to a disappointing draw against Oud-Heverlee Leuven (1-1), while KRC Genk posted their first win of the season after 2 draws, moving past Cup winners Lokeren in the final minutes (1-0).
