Suspicious package causes rush-hour misery

A suspicious package caused rush-hour misery for thousands of commuters traveling into Brussels from the west on Thursday morning. The package, a small metal case, was spotted outside a branch of the ING Bank on the Keizer Karellaan in Ganshoren at around 8am.

The Keizer Karellaan is the main road between the E40 Brussels to Ghent/Bruges/Ostend… motorway and the Brussels inner ring road.

This important route into and out of the capital was closed for two hours while bomb disposal experts from DOVO dealt with the package.

Several houses in the area were also evacuated as a precautionary measure. The case turned out to be empty and the road was reopened at around 10am.
