Police detained in case of missing woman

Three Antwerp police officers have been detained in the case of a woman that disappeared in 1996. The Antwerp judicial authorities suspect that the three botched the investigation into the disappearance of the then 30-year-old Vera Van Laer. Ms Van Laer’s former partner has also been detained on suspicion of murder.

Two police officers were detained on Wednesday, the third police officers was detained earlier today. The Antwerp judicial authorities suspect that they botched crimes reports pertaining to the disappearance .

Vera Van Laer was 30 when she disappeared in 1996. An investigation into her disappearance that was launched at the time drew a blank.

The investigation was reopened two years ago and earlier this week Ms Van Laer’s former partner was detained on suspicion of murder.
