Tom De Sutter saves Anderlecht (bis)

Anderlecht squeezed past Zulte Waregem at the Gaverbeek in Waregem (West Flanders) on Saturday evening, climbing to second place in the standings. Beerschot, the leading team in the city of Antwerp, have entered the top-6 after winning their 4th consecutive match.

Anderlecht were in for a tough challenge at Zulte Waregem, one of the surprises of the season so far. At 2-all deep into the second half, it looked as if the champions from Brussels would lose two precious points, but West-Flemish striker Tom De Sutter saved Anderlecht in the final minutes: 2-3. Last season, a late De Sutter goal had also handed Anderlecht a late win.

The win allowed Anderlecht to climb to second place, just one point behind leaders Club Bruges. However, Club are playing the Bruges derby against Cercle later on Sunday.

In other action, Beerschot beat KV Kortrijk 2-1 to move to 4th place. In-form Beerschot kept the momentum against the West-Flemings, counting on playmaker Hernan Losada.

At 1-1, Losada converted a penalty on 73 minutes to decide the match. Kortrijk ended the game with just 9 men after Landry Mulemo and Blanstel Koussalouka (photo) were sent off. Beerschot is the team of coach Adrie Koster, who was given the sack at Club Bruges last season.

The other results:

  • Lokeren - Oud-Heverlee Leuven 2-2
  • KV Mechelen - RAEC Mons 3-0
  • Waasland Beveren - Lierse 1-1
  • On Sunday: Club Brugge - Cercle Brugge and Charleroi - KRC Genk
