Cox not nominated for Sportsman of the Year

The Olympic silver-medallist Lionel Cox is not among the three nominees or the 2012 Sportsman of the year award that will be presented at a ceremony in a month’s time. Instead the cyclists Tom Boonen and Philippe Gilbert and the athlete Hans Van Alphen have been put forward for the award.

The three nominees for Sportswoman of the year are Belgium’s two Olympic bronze medallists Evi Van Acker (sailing) and Charline Van Snick (judo) and the basketball player Ann Wauters.

The Cycling World Champion Philippe Gilbert (photo) could win the award for the fourth time.

Tom Boonen could scoop the award it for a third time.

Meanwhile, Hans Van Alphen, who came fourth in the decathlon at the London Olympics, has not yet won the Sportsman of the Year award.

The awards ceremony will take place on the evening on Sunday 16 December and will be broadcast live on the VRT’s first television channel Eén.
